A “refugee” in my definition is someone who changes location, from
their physical home or homeland, by either force or on his or her own accord. Whether
it is from a country, town, government, etc. The person moves from one specific
“place” (as this can be not a physical move, but maybe a mental one) to
another. Most often times we see this definition of refugee in the darkest
sense possible, those people abused by their government or other overruling
power, forced to move from their homes and land. However, I also believe that
one can be a refugee because they left this “place” under their own will. They
seek refuge, or safety, in a new place. They are looking to better their
conditions of life, whether it be through their view of religion, politics, or
other controversial worldly topics.
What's up Jack.
ReplyDeleteI know this was your pre Protecting Refugee post, and I assume you revised some of your definition like I did. In my original post, I also didn't pigeon whole the term refugee to just being individuals outside their homeland. The UNHCR article helped to to understand the true definition of a refugee by showing the criteria for becoming a refugee.
